Merchandise Prep and Pricing
Pricing Guidelines:
Consignors, you set the price on all items you are selling. Remember that
bargain hunters are looking for really good deals, so be reasonable with
your pricing! As a general rule, you should price items 30-40% of the
original price, with most items close to 30% and only items in supreme
condition near to 40%.
On Sunday you have the option of selling some or all of your items at half price. We recommend that you do allow most of your items to go half-price as Sunday shoppers are often thrifty and are hunting for bargain items! If you plan to donate your items, we strongly recommend you first offer your items at half off on Sunday.
Ebay and craigslist are online resources you can use to help you get started with pricing, as are local consignment shops. A word of note, all prices must be in increments of .50 cents i.e. we do not accept .99 cent prices etc. Our minimum price for any item is $1.00; if needed group items together!
Organize items as follows:
Before you start entering your items and information into our tagging system it is helpful and quicker if you group items by category (shoes,
clothes, toys); also be sure to sort by gender and size. We require that
you drop off items sorted by boy/girl and size -so it’s easier to
just tag and organize that way from the start.
Once you have your items organized you should prep your items as follows:
Clothes:
Must be clean and without stains, tears or missing buttons. Make sure to secure all buttons, zippers and snaps. Make sure all matching hats, socks, etc, are securely attached to the same hanger with safety pins. All pants must be pinned to a hanger, not folded over, as they tend to end up on the floor.
Hanging:
Place all clothing on size appropriate hangers; please use small child size hangers for baby clothing and other small sized items. Plastic hangers are preferable and can be purchased at most stores; some children’s stores will give you their hangers for free.
Make sure the hanger hook is pointing to the left (like a ?) and place the item tag on the right shoulder of the garment. For sets, hang the shirt on the hanger and then turn the hanger over and pin the pants - facing out.
Shoes:
Tie shoes together by the laces or with ribbon, zip ties, or loop hooks, and attach the tag with a hole punched on the tag. Use Ziploc bags for small shoes with the tag taped or pinned to the outside; you can group several pairs of baby shoes or booties together in a bag as they may sell better this way.
Toys and equipment:
Everything must be clean and in working order, with working batteries
included and assembled. Cheap batteries are available at the dollar store.
Small parts must be bagged and attached to the main part very securely;
use Ziploc bags if you need to. With large items and toys, be sure to
place your consignor number and price on a recipe/index card and tape
securely in case the small tag comes off; that way we’ll know it’s
yours! Also, please check that your items have not been recalled. A good
source for this information is www.recalls.gov.
A word about Car Seats:
We only accept infant travel system type car seats with stroller and we only accept car seats that have never been in an accident. Car seats must be less than 5 years old and the consignor must be the original owner. If you are not sure if your car seat has been recalled check www.nhtsa.gov or www.carseat.org or call the toll-free DOT Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-DASH-2-DOT for recalls. Car seats must have a sticker on the base that gives manufacturer information to be accepted. We will be checking this sticker at check-in.
Consignors will be required to sign a waiver form stating the seat has
never been in an accident. Waiver forms are available at drop off.
Furniture:
Please be sure to bring your furniture assembled, or plan to assemble it at drop off. A crib, for example, will sell much easier if it is put together and can be closely looked at rather than in a heap on the floor! Also for cribs and toddler beds please be sure to note if a mattress is included or not.
